Dania Beach

Welcome To South Florida

Welcome to South Florida you just landed in Fort Lauderdale Airport better known as FLL. If you already picked up a car and on your way to check in your next stop would be to get food. The areas blowing up restaurants so that should not be a problem. If you’re staying in an area there are plenty of parks to explore only minutes away from the airport. I’m going to talk about a few that are located in Dania Beach and Hollywood the neighborhood south of Fort Lauderdale.

West Lake Park

If you’re looking to do some kayaking or paddle boarding thru the mangroves West Lake Park is go to spot. The park also offers trails, kids playground ball courts, Marina (Canoe/Kayak/Stand-Up Paddleboard Rentals) Along with picnic areas I suggest stopping by the Publix on the way there to pick me up some food or snacks.

Anne Kolb Nature Center

Anne Kolb Nature Center is located across the street from West Lake Park. The park offers trails thru the mangroves and observation tower.  Westlake Park is the largest Mangrove ecosystem in the surrounding area. If you’re local it has some great fishing spots on the intercoastal.

My next Favorite location is  Dania Beach Jacks which are located in Dr. Von d. Mizell-Eula Johnson State Park. The Dania Jacks are 300 feet from Shore, this stretches for 1500 feet until the first reef edge. If you looking at the Google Maps picture below you’ll actually notice the artificial reef by its

shadow stretching. The only way you doing snorkeling here is if you brought your own equipment and dive flag. However, the park offers kayak and paddleboard rentals in Whiskey Creek. Whiskey Creek was used by Smugglers during the prohibition and that’s where it got its name
